The Wilderness Resort decided to add a new ride to their campus, called “Take Flight.” The ride aims to have passengers soar through the various National Parks led by various characters seen in the ride’s book companion. Before entering the ride, the customers walk through a hallways full of windows that are portals to the National Parks. Each window has a version of the park during all four seasons and a day and night version of each. If a person lingers for a second, carefully timed sensors release one of the book’s cartoon characters to interact before disappearing.
At ZEBRADOG, I worked alongside a UI/UX designer to design based on the ride’s book. We worked to flesh out the characters behind the book and make sure their interactions align with their personality. We also created the script and character design for the park ranger who delivers the safety video prior to the ride. Working with another designer, we brought 40 images to life in the window portals. We added flying birds, shooting stars, insects, and paralaxing moments along with audio sounds to make the parks feel real.
